The painterly oeuvre of the Austrian artist Hilde Polsterer (1903–1969), who studied at the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts under Berthold Löffler and Josef Hoffmann, combines decorative linear structures with avant-garde influences from the Parisian Surrealist and Dada circles around Tristan Tzara. In her predominantly figurative oil paintings, still lifes, and Mediterranean landscapes, the later Art Club artist developed a harmoniously abstracted formal language and luminous fields of color, bridging Viennese applied arts with international modernism.
