The Czech sculptor Josef Mařatka is regarded as one of the most important representatives of modern Czech sculpture, whose work was significantly shaped by his close collaboration with Auguste Rodin in Paris. In his versatile oeuvre, he combined influences of Impressionism and Symbolism—as seen in his renowned sculpture *Opuštěná Ariadna* (*Abandoned Ariadne*, 1903)—with a consistently firm and structurally ordered compositional framework. Alongside his sensitive studies of hands and female nudes, he achieved lasting historical significance through monumental public memorials as well as expressive military and character portraits. standard taxation
