Gabriela Medvedova, born in 1965 in Dunajská Streda, Slovakia, lives and works in Vienna. After studying at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design Bratislava, she received the “Künstlerwege” scholarship at the State Academy of Fine Arts Karlsruhe, followed by a scholarship from the Austrian Federal Ministry of Science and Research in Vienna, which brought her to the University of Applied Arts Vienna.
Her work moves between painting, object art, installation, and light art. She has developed an independent, material-based abstraction in which silver, gold, surface texture, and light play a central role. Depending on the lighting conditions, the works change in appearance and reveal different visual qualities by day and by night.
Awards, scholarships, and public acquisitions underline the art-historical relevance, institutional recognition, and international visibility of her work.
Women in Art is an initiative by Fürstenweg Unique Fine Art, which curated this selection. Its aim is to give emerging and established female artists greater visibility in the art market.
