Carl Schuch's painting from 1868 which presents a view from the Zwieselalm in the Salzkammergut impressively showcases his mastery in depicting nature. The conifer, majestically situated on a hillside amidst the mountains, stands at the centre of the painting, conveying an exalted calmness. This composition reflects Schuch's deep understanding of landscape painting, developed through his travels and encounters with other artists of the Leibl Circle. As with many of his works, his dedication to pure painting is evident here, where each layer was applied wet-on-wet, leaving no room for later corrections.
We thank Dr. Roland Dorn for the review. The work will be included in the catalog raisonné.
