Mel Ramos's work Drawing Lesson from 2016 combines his characteristic pop art aesthetic with his long-standing interest in the representation of the female body. As a student of Wayne Thiebaud and a representative of the American pop art movement, Ramos often merged oversized consumer products with surreal combinations of female models. This provocative connection between eroticism and critique of consumerism reflects the spirit of the 1950s and 60s. In Drawing Lesson, Ramos addresses the themes of classical nudes and the role of women in art by blending art historical references with modern pop culture.
