Purchased from the artist by Menashe Warshavsky. He was an actor and businessman who lived mainly in Germany from the late 1970s and early 1980s until his death in 2001, where he was a close friend of Prof. Jörg Immendorff in Düsseldorf.
Known for his painting characterized by a universal language of signs and symbols, A.R. Penck draws on a combination of abstract forms and clear lines in this work, reminiscent of early cave paintings. Born Ralf Winkler in Dresden, Penck was a self-taught artist. Despite the restrictions placed on him during his time in the GDR, he managed to develop his artistic voice and achieve international acclaim. The dynamic and often playful elements of his painting, combined with a deep thematic layer, address human interactions and societal structures. This work is not only a testament to Penck's creative vision but also an invitation to decipher his symbolism and explore the universal themes woven into his art.
Slight colour abrasion in some spots.
