Markus Hofer plays with perception and the tension between material, function and expectation. A small bench is crowned by two round, cushion-like forms made of concrete, creating a powerful interplay of contrasts. What appears soft and inviting turns out to be hard, heavy and immovable. With this reversal of familiar material logic, Hofer subverts our sensory experience and reduces it to absurdity. The supposed comfort becomes a sculptural illusion that leaves the viewer torn between amusement and irritation.
