The graphic work of Bogdan Borčić is regarded as one of the most significant achievements of Slovenian postwar modernism. As a central representative of the Ljubljana School of Printmaking, he developed a minimalist visual language expressed primarily through precise etchings and color aquatints. His motifs were strongly inspired by the maritime elements of the Adriatic coast as well as by the objects and architecture of his own studio. A historically profound aspect of his late work addresses his imprisonment in the Dachau concentration camp through a radically reduced graphic series. For this distinctive and internationally acclaimed body of work, Borčić was awarded Slovenia’s prestigious Prešeren Award.
